Trouble with connected devices

Connect my devices, Use as an exit and sharing each have their own messages. Read the message the app shows, find it below, and apply the one action that fits. The code is in the app's connection details.

Symptoms

• A device is stuck waiting and does not join your private network.
• Your exit is offline, or nothing leaves the device and the app says so.
• A device that was serving as an exit stopped.
• You cannot turn on another exit.
• A share or an invite does not work.

Likely causes

• Waiting to join (cp.member_pending). The account already has 16 devices connected, so this device waits for a slot. Older apps instead say to open ForestVPN on one of your other devices and tap Allow.
• Exit offline (cp.exit_offline). The exit you chose, or every exit in My exits, is unreachable. Nothing leaves this device until it is back, and ForestVPN does not fall back to a ForestVPN location by itself.
• Exit paused (ne.no_wired_or_wifi). The exit device is on mobile data, not Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
• Exit limit (cp.exit_limit). Turning this device into an exit would pass the number of exits an account can have. Every plan, Free included, allows 10.
• Sharing refused (cp.share_refused). A new device can share only an exit it runs itself for its first week while an older device is in use, and sharing can be switched off for now.
• Share limit (cp.share_limit). The exit is already shared with 5 people.
• Invite not valid (cp.invite_invalid). The invite was already used, has expired, does not exist or is your own code. One message covers all four.
• Share ended (session.share_ended). A shared exit you were using was revoked, the sharer left or the grant ended.

Fix each cause

• Waiting to join: remove a device from the account, then connect. On an older app, tap Allow on one of your other devices.
• Exit offline: open Locations and choose a ForestVPN location or another exit, or wait for the exit to come back.
• Exit paused: nothing to do. It starts again automatically once the exit device is back on Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Your own tunnel on that device is unaffected.
• Exit limit: turn off an existing exit before adding another.
• Sharing refused: share from one of your older devices. It can share any of your exits.
• Share limit: remove a guest first, or share a different exit.
• Invite not valid: ask the person sharing for a new invite.
• Share ended: open Locations and choose a ForestVPN location or another exit.
