Your home

Your home, anywhere

Reach your home computer, files and the sites that expect you to be there — banking, government, your TV service — from anywhere. If your home connection stops, we switch you to another one you own and tell you.

How it works

How it works

  1. 01

    Turn it on at home

On your home computer, turn on Use as an exit in ForestVPN.

  2. 02

    Pick it in Locations

On your phone or laptop, open Locations and choose your home computer under My exits.

  3. 03

    You're home

Banking, government sites, your NAS, your TV service — everything sees you the way it would if you were sitting at home.

If it stops, we switch you

Own more than one exit — a home PC and a router, say? If the one you're using goes offline, ForestVPN moves you to another one you own automatically and tells you what happened. No silent drop, no guessing why a site suddenly looks wrong.

Reach your home network

Your home computer, NAS or media server, by name, from anywhere — no port forwarding and no router setup. Anything that can run ForestVPN on your home network is reachable while you're connected through your home exit; a printer or a camera that can't run it is reachable only through that connection, not from the open internet.

Honest limits
Your home computer has to be on
If it's asleep or powered off, that exit is offline until it's back — same as it would be for any other reason you couldn't reach it.
Upload speed at home is the ceiling
Everything you move through your home exit rides your home connection's upload speed, the same limit any remote-access tool has.
Sharing is on every plan, with limits
Turning your own device into an exit works on Free, and so does sharing it with other people. You can run up to 10 exits and share each with up to 5 people, from a device that has been on your account for a week or more.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Connecting your own devices, running exits and sharing them with other people are on every plan, Free included.
Does my friend need Premium?
No. Nobody needs Premium for this: the person sharing an exit and whoever it's shared with can both be on Free.
Can ForestVPN see my traffic?
No record anywhere links a session to an exit, and the service that carries your traffic holds no account database. See our privacy policy for the full picture.
What happens if my home computer turns off?
You lose that exit. If you own more than one, ForestVPN switches you to another automatically and tells you. If it's your only one, Locations shows it as unreachable until it's back.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, to use an exit and to reach your other devices. An iPhone can't be an exit yet.
