ForestVPN for Mac
A free VPN that lives in your Mac’s menu bar, with no sign-up. It needs macOS 14.0 or later and installs from the Mac App Store.

- The Mac App Store. It is the same listing as iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, so there is no separate purchase and no direct download.
- Permission
- macOS asks once to add a VPN configuration. Allow it, or ForestVPN cannot connect.
Install
- 01
Open the Mac App Store page
Click the App Store badge above, or search the Mac App Store for ForestVPN by Digital Services LLC.

Get the app
Click Get, then Install. It is free to start; Premium is optional.

Open it from the menu bar
Open ForestVPN once. Its icon then sits in the menu bar. Allow the VPN configuration when macOS asks.
First run

Press Connect
Open ForestVPN and press Connect. Free needs no sign-up, no email and no password.

Choose a location
Pick where you want to appear from the location list. Premium unlocks more of it.

Use the same Premium elsewhere
On another device, enter your account number to sign in. Restore on a new device explains it.
What works on Mac
- Menu bar item
- Connect, disconnect and change location without opening a window.
- Open at login
- Have ForestVPN start when you sign in to your Mac.
- Same account as iPhone
- Premium bought on one Apple device works on the others. See Restore on a new device.
Not on Mac yet: split tunneling, choosing which apps skip the VPN. It exists on Android, Windows and Linux.
Updates
Updates arrive through the store. The store page shows the current version.
Verify your download
Installed from the store, which checks the app’s signature for you.
Uninstall
Quit ForestVPN from the menu bar, then drag it from Applications to the Bin. Removing the app does not delete your account; to do that, see Delete your account.

- Is it free?
- Yes to start. The Free plan allows 2 GB per connection and 5 connections a day, with no sign-up. Premium is optional and bought through Apple or on the web.
- Is there a direct download for Mac?
- No. ForestVPN for Mac comes only from the Mac App Store, in the same listing as iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to connect. If you buy Premium, you get a 32-character account number that signs you in on your other devices. Keep it safe: we cannot recover it for you.
