Features

Connect your own devices

Your devices join one private network and reach each other by name, from anywhere. Any of them can be an exit for the others, and ForestVPN switches you to another exit you own if the one you are using goes offline.

How it works

  1. 01

    Sign in on each device

Use the same account number on every device you want to connect.

  2. 02

    Reach them by name

Each device has a name only you choose. Use it wherever you would use an address.

  3. 03

    Use one as an exit

On a computer that stays home, turn on Use as an exit. On another device, open Locations and choose it under My exits.

What you get

  • Traffic between your devices is end-to-end encrypted.
  • Names instead of addresses, with no port forwarding.
  • Automatic failover between your own exits, with an alert. If every exit fails, traffic stays blocked.

Limits and honest caveats

  • An exit has to be on. If your home computer sleeps or is switched off, that exit is offline.
  • Your home upload speed is the ceiling for what you move through a home exit.
  • An iPhone can use an exit and reach your devices, but it cannot be an exit yet.

Questions

Can ForestVPN see what passes between my devices?
No. Traffic between your devices is end-to-end encrypted, and the service that coordinates them knows no account.
What happens if my home computer turns off?
You lose that exit. If you own more than one, ForestVPN switches you to another automatically and tells you. If it is your only one, Locations shows it as unreachable until it is back.
Do I need to set up my router?
No. There is no port forwarding and no router setup.
