Delete your account

How to delete a ForestVPN account in the app or the console, what it removes, and what it leaves for you to cancel.

Updated October 9, 2026

You only have an account if you created an account number. If you never did, there is nothing to delete: removing the app is the whole process.

How to delete it

  1. Open Account and choose Delete account. On a Mac the entry is Delete account…. The console has the same entry on its Account page.
  2. Type the full 32-character account number. Being signed in on the device is not enough, so that a device someone else added cannot delete your account.
  3. Read the preview. It shows how many devices are attached and how many subscriptions are active.
  4. Confirm.

For your safety: if a device has been on the account for a week or more and was used in the last 30 days, delete the account from that device. A newer device can do it once it has been on the account for a week. The console can do it once none of those devices has been used for 30 days.

What deleting does

  • The account number stops working, and it cannot be brought back. This is the same as losing it.
  • Every device that was attached to the account is no longer linked to any account, including devices you are not holding.
  • It cannot be undone.

What deleting does not do

Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription. Apple and Google keep billing until you cancel in their store, so cancel first. An App Store subscription stays with the device that bought it. A Stripe card subscription keeps renewing until you stop it, in the console under Subscription.

What happens to data

See what a deletion request can reach in the privacy policy, which lists what exists, how long it is kept, and what cannot be removed.
