Terms of service

These terms are between you and Digital Services LLC, which operates ForestVPN. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you do not, do not use the service — there is no account to close, because there is nothing to sign up for.

The service

ForestVPN encrypts your device’s network traffic and routes it through a server we operate, so that the networks between you and that server carry ciphertext, and the services you reach see the server’s address rather than yours.

It is not anonymity, and we do not sell it as such. It changes who can see your traffic; it does not hide you from a service you sign into, and it does not protect you against what is happening on your own device. The privacy policy sets out the limits precisely.

You must be old enough to hold an Apple Account in your country, and you are responsible for using the service in a way that is lawful where you are.

Free tier

Without a subscription you get 2 GB per connection, five connections a day and two devices. These limits are enforced by the service, and they can change: if we change them we will say so here and in the app before the change applies.

The free tier is offered as it stands today. We do not promise it will exist forever, and you should not choose the product on the assumption that it will.

Subscriptions

One paid plan, Premium, on three billing rungs:

• $20.99 every 6 months
• $29.99 per year — with a 3-day free trial on this rung only

Prices are in US dollars. What you actually pay is set by Apple for your storefront and may differ with local pricing and tax. The price you will be charged, the renewal price and the cancellation path are all shown before you buy.

Apple sells, bills, renews, cancels and refunds every subscription. Your purchase is also governed by Apple’s Media Services terms. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends, in your Apple Account settings. We cannot charge you, cannot cancel for you and cannot issue a refund; refund requests go to Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com.

The three-day free trial is offered on the yearly rung only. Apple determines eligibility. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, it converts to a paid year.

Cancelling takes effect at the end of the paid period and returns you to the free tier. Nothing is deleted and you are not locked out.

Accounts and account numbers

You do not need an account to use the service. If you create one to put a subscription on more than one device, it is a 32-character number and nothing else — no email address, no password, no recovery question.

Treat it as a credential. Anyone who has it can attach a device to your subscription. It is shown once. If you lose it and no device is still attached, we cannot recover it, because we hold nothing else that identifies you.

Attaching a device to an account is permanent. There is no route that detaches it. The app tells you this before you confirm. In genuine cases — a lost device, an exposed number — write to us; severance is an audited exception, handled by hand, and it is deliberately slow and rate-limited.

Acceptable use

The service exists because hosting companies let us run exit servers. Abuse from an exit address is how that arrangement ends, so this section is enforced rather than decorative.

You may not use ForestVPN to:

• break the law that applies to you, or to send or store anything unlawful — child sexual abuse material above all;
• send spam or bulk unsolicited messages of any kind;
• attack, scan, brute-force, flood or otherwise interfere with any network, service or person;
• distribute malware, run phishing or fraud, or take part in credential stuffing or carding;
• infringe someone else’s copyright or other rights;
• resell, sublicense or share access outside the device limits of your tier, or automate the issuing of credentials beyond normal personal use;
• circumvent the limits of your tier, or attempt to obtain more allowance than your tier grants.

You are responsible for everything sent through your connection. Because we keep no record connecting an exit address to a subscriber, we generally cannot identify who was responsible for a given complaint; what we can do is act on the exit server.

Suspension

We may rate-limit, refuse or suspend access — for a device, an account or a whole exit server — where it is necessary to keep the service running, to respond to abuse, or to comply with the law. Where a suspension affects you and we can tell you why, we will.

You can stop using the service at any time by deleting the app. That is the whole process; there is no account to close.

Availability

There is no uptime commitment. Servers are added and removed, locations change status, and the app shows each location’s real state rather than an aspirational list. If the service is unavailable and you have paid for it, your remedy is through Apple.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law where you live allows. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, that any particular location will be available, or that it is fit for a purpose you have in mind but have not told us about.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither we nor our suppliers are liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded — and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. When we do we will change the date at the top and describe what changed. Material changes take effect the next time you connect after they are published; if you do not accept them, stop using the service.

Governing law, and where the service is offered

The service is offered through the Apple App Store in the territories where the app is listed. Some countries require a licence to operate or use a VPN; where that is the case, the service is only offered in line with local requirements, and it remains your responsibility to comply with the law where you are.

These terms are governed by the law of the place where Digital Services LLC is established, without affecting any mandatory consumer protection you have where you live.
